(a): As per provisional Land Use Statistics available for 2008-09, area under
cultivation for wheat and rice has been around 14.22% and 23.34% respectively
of the total/gross cropped area in the country during that year.
(b) & (c): As indicated in the table below, the area coverage under rice during
2008-09 to 2010-11 has followed a fluctuating trend:-

(d): Major programmes under which assistance is provided by Government of India
to States to encourage farmers to increase production and productivity of rice in
the country are National Food Security Mission-Rice(NFSM-Rice) and Integrated Cereal
Development Programme-Rice (ICDP-Rice) under Macro Management of Agriculture (MMA).
Besides, the States also utilized funds from the allocation under Rashtriya Krishi
Vikas Yojana (RKVY) for implementation of projects/programmes to increase production
of rice. State-wise details of allocation/assistance provided by Government of India
under the above Schemes/programmes during 2011-12 are given in the Annexure.
