Question : CLOSURE OF DIRECTORATE OF TOBACCO DEVELOPMENT



(a) whether the Right-sizing Committee of his Ministry recommended closure of the Directorate of Tobacco Development at Chennai;

(b) if so, whether the Government have accepted the recommendations of the Committee in this regard; and

(c) if so, the time-frame by which the said recommendations are likely to be implemented?

(a) to (c): The Right-sizing Committee of the Ministry has reviewed the workload of various functional Divisions as well as attached and subordinate offices and has, inter-alia, identified 29 posts sanctioned for the Directorate of Tobacco Development, Chennai for abolition. It has further been recommended that the vacant posts may be abolished immediately and the filled posts may be abolished as these become vacant on promotion/retirement etc.

The recommendations are being implemented accordingly.
