Question : QUACKS



(a) whether the Directorate of Health Services has recently asked the Medical Councils to take strict action against quacks;

(b) if so, whether due to quacks a large number of people lose their lives every year;

(c) if so, the facts thereof;

(d) whether the Union Government and State Governments have failed to check the mushrooming of Quacks in the country;

(e) if so, the details thereof; and

(f) the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Union Government in this regard?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE (SHRI A. RAJA)

(a) Government of NCT of Delhi have informed that their Directorate of Health Services have issued such instructions.

(b)&(c) No such statistics are available.

(d) & (e) No survey has been conducted about prevalence and mushrooming of quacks.

(f) According to provisions in the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, Indian Medicine Central Council Act, 1970 and Homoeopathy Central Council Act, 1973, no unregistered practitioner can practice medicine. Any person who acts in contravention of the provisions can be punished with imprisonment and fine under the respective Acts.
