Question : EXPANSION AND UPGRADATION OF AIRPORTS



(a) the details of the airports where upgradation and expansion works have been carried out during each of the last three years;

(b) the amount spent thereon, airport-wise;

(c) whether the Government are contemplating to carry out such works at some other airports also during 2001-2002;

(d) if so, the details thereof;

(e) whether the Government are contemplating to upgrade the status of some airports to bring them at par with the international airport; and

(f) if so, the details thereof?

STATEMENT IN REPLY TO PARTS (a), (b), (c), (d), (e) & (f) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO.17 FOR ANSWER ON 23.7.2001 REGARDING EXPANSION AND UPGRADATION OF AIRPORTS.

(a), (b), (c) & (d) :- Upgradation and expansion works have been carried out in 1998-99 in Bhubaneswar, Goa, Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata and Thiruvanthapuram Airports. Major Communication Navigation & Surveillance (CNS) / Air Traffic Management(ATM) projects have been completed at Kolkata, Chennai, Tezpur, Allahabad, Cochin, Mumbai, Delhi, Agra, Srinagar, Ahmedabad, Guwahati, Patna, Silchar and Leh. In 1999-2000 upgradation and expansion works were carried out and completed at Patna, Indore, Jabalpur, Rajkot, Bangalore, Tirupati, Vijayawada, Silchar, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram. Major CNS/ATM projects were completed during 1999-2000 at Nagpur, Mumbai, Calcutta, Delhi, Chennai, Allahabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Ahmedabad, Varanasi, Mangalore, Guwahati, Udaipur, Bhopal, Indore, Aurangabad, Calicut, Cochin, Tura, Lengpui, Kargil, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Agra, Gwalior, Bhuj, Jam Nagar and Pune. In 2000-2001, upgradation and expansion works have been carried out at Baroda, Ahmedabad, Port Blair, Imphal, Trichy, Calicut, Hyderabad, Bagdogra, Guwahati, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Thiruvananthapuram. Major CNS/ATM projects have been completed during the year at Ahmedabad, Aurangabad, Bhopal, Mangalore, Jammu and Imphal. The expenditure on the above works have been Rs.319.87 crores in 1998-99, Rs.360.63 crores in 1999-2000 and Rs.348.68 crores in 2000-2001. The amount spent on major airports of Mumbai, Kolkata, New Delhi, Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram are Rs.117.72, Rs.42.98, Rs.144.66, Rs.82.26 and Rs.13.99 crores respectively.

Airport upgradation and expansion works are being undertaken during the current year at Kangra, Jaipur, Jammu, Leh, Lucknow, Pathankot, Varanasi, Bhubaneswar, Gaya, Bhuj, Jabalpur, Porbandar, Rajamundry, Agartala, Dimapur, Guwahati, Tezpur, Lilabari and Imphal.

(e) & (f) :- There is no plan at present to declare more airports as international.
