Question : Protection of MSMEs

(a) whether the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the country are lagging behind due to availability of products of multinational companies;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons for the high prices of the indigenous products as compared to the Chinese products;

(c) whether the Government has provided some assistance to encourage and protect MSMEs and taken some remedial measures in this regard ; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a)&(b): The competitiveness & comparative advantage of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the country vis-à-vis the enterprises of other countries depends on a number of factors such as cost of inputs, access to appropriate technology, finance, infrastructure, market, quality of products & productivity.

(c)&(d): The Government has taken several initiatives for promotion and development of MSMEs in the country such as Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Credit Guarantee Scheme, Credit Linked Capital Subsidy Scheme (CLCSS), National Manufacturing Competitiveness Programme (NMCP), Procurement and Marketing Support Scheme, International Cooperation Scheme, ZED Certification Scheme and Public Procurement Policy for Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) etc.
