Question : Illegal Opium Production

(a) whether the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in its latest reports has ranked India fourth in the World in terms of illegal opium crop destroyed;
(b) if so, the details thereof and the total quantum of illegal opium produced in the country, State/UT-wise;
(c) whether it has come to the notice of the Government that Bangladesh immigrants come to India particularly in West Bengal to cultivate illegal opium; and
(d) if so, the details of such cases reported in the country during each of the last three years and the current year along with punitive measures taken in this regard?

(a) and (b): No, the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC) in its latest World Drug Report 2016 has not given any specific rank to India in terms of illegal opium crop destroyed.
However, as per World Drug Report-2016, in terms of the Opium Poppy eradication, the destruction done by India of 1636 hectares is the fourth highest after Mexico, Myanmar and Afghanistan in 2014. The details of destruction of illicit cultivation of opium poppy in the country, State/UT wise during last 3 years and the current year are as follows.
