Question : Distance Learning Courses

(a) whether the UGC has cancelled the recognition of certain distance learning courses offered
by State as well Central Universities in the recent past;
(b) if so, the details thereof along with the reasons therefor; and
(c) the steps taken by the Government to ensure that the students are not inconvenienced due to
the decision of the UGC?

(a) & (b): As per the advise received by University Grants Commission (UGC) from Department
of Agricultural Research & Education and Indian Council of Agricultural Research & All India
Council for Technical Education (AICTE), some of the programmes of Central/State/State Open
Universities/Deemed to be Universities in Agriculture and Agricultural Extension & Hospitality
and Hotel Administration at Undergraduate level have been stopped by UGC to run through
ODL mode from the academic year beginning from the July, 2019. Further, UGC has also
placed some of the programmes of State/State Open Universities on hold for failing to meet the
overall academic facilities in such universities. A list of Central/State/State Open
Universities/Deemed Universities whose some of the programmes have been withdrawn or put
on hold is placed at Annexure-I.
(c) : UGC has already issued instructions to the concerned Universities that the interest of the
students already admitted in such courses upto the academic year 2018-19 will be protected by
providing all necessary support to these students till they complete their courses/programmes.
