Question : TRANSFERS OF DEFENCE ESTATE OFFICERS



(a) whether a recent decision to transfer 36 officers of the Directorate General of Defence Estates has kicked up a controversy with a Supreme Court lawyer alleging that the orders do not follow any pattern or policy as reported in the “Indian Express” dated June 14, 2000;

(b) if so, the facts thereof; and

(c) the steps taken to ensure that transfers are not made tools to harass those officers who dare to do their duties consistent with rules, regulations and law and public interest?

MINISTER OF DEFENCE (SHRI GEORGE FERNANDES)

(a) to (c): Recently 36 officers of the Directorate General, Defence Estates were transferred in accordance with the transfer policy as well as administrative requirements. All transfers are done in public interest, keeping in view the career profile and suitability of officers.
