(a) whether Nagpur based scientists have claimed commercial production of petroleum substitute from plastic wastes;

(b) if so, the details thereof ; and

(c) the reaction of the Government thereto?

(a) : In terms of the information available with the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, a Nagpur based professor had claimed to have developed a catalytic process at laboratory scale for the conversion of plastic wastes into liquid hydrocarbon products. However, on detailed scrutiny, the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas concluded that the proposal could not be recommended for further research and/ or funding. The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas have no further information regarding the commercial production of petroleum substitute from plastic wastes.

(b) & (c) : In view of (a) above, do not arise.
