THE MINISTER OF STATE (COMMERCE & INDUSTRY) (DR. RAMAN SINGH)

a & b)  Leather Complexes are being set up  in the country on Built Operate and Transfer(BOT)  basis.   Such a complex is already  operational at Jalandhar, Punjab  built by Punjab Leather Development Corporation  and Punjab State  Industrial Exports Corporation. UP State Industrial Development Corporation has also prepared a proposal for setting up a Leather Goods Complex with township at Rooma in Kanpur. There are also proposals to set up Leather complexes in Unnao(UP), Jaipur(Rajasthan) and Bhopal(Madhya Pradesh).   A leather complex is also being established in West Bengal  in the  District  of South 24 Parganas  to relocate  the tanneries situated  in and around Kolkata. The complex is known as  the Kolkata Leather Complex.
c & d)  Some complaints have been received  regarding the  high cost  of land  to the tanners  and delay  on the part of BOT party  in completing the work as per the schedule in West Bengal.  The Government of West Bengal  is seized of the matter in resolving the issue with the BOT party.
