Question : Drinking Water to Every Household

(a) whether there is a plan of action in place to provide drinking water to all households;
(b) if so, the details thereof along with the targeted timeline;
(c) whether Rs. 11,500 crore allocated in the budget is sufficient for achieving the targets under the National Rural Drinking Water Mission; and
(d) if so, the cost breakup of the same along with the expected outcomes?

(a) & (b)To enable every rural household in the country to have potable water at service level of 55 litre per capita per day (lpcd) through Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) by 2024, Government of India, in partnership with the States, has launched Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) with an estimated cost of Rs. 3.60 lakh Crore out of which Central share is Rs. 2.08 lakh Crore.
(c) & (d) In 2020-21, an amount of Rs.11,500Crore as Gross Budgetary Support (GBS) and Rs.12,000 Crore asExtra Budgetary Resource (EBR) have been proposed for the Jal Jeevan Mission.
After approval of the budget, allocation is decided as per approved allocation criteria and target is decided in consultation with States in the beginning of the financial year.
