Question : Bed Patient Ratio

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) the number of Government hospitals including AIIMS, Safdarjung and Ram Manohar Lohia in the country along with the number of beds available therein, hospital-wise including hospitals in Delhi;

(b) the number of hospitals and beds required for patients in urban and rural areas, State/UT-wise;

(c) whether the Government has allocated funds to the States/UTs for setting up of hospitals and increasing beds and if so, the details of funds allocated/utilized for the purpose during each of the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise; and

(d) the steps taken/being taken by the Government to meet the norms prevalent at international level and improve the hospital and bed ratio in the country?

(a) & (b): The details of bed strength in Central Government hospitals in Delhi and All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) are given as under:

As per the National Health Profile 2018 compiled by the Central Bureau of Health Intelligence (CBHI) 710761 beds are available in 23582 Government Hospitals including Primary Health Clinics (CHCs) in the country.

Since ‘Health’ is a State subject, information regarding hospital-wise bed availability and requirement is not maintained centrally.

(c) & (d): The details of the funds allocated under National Health Mission (NHM) and utilized by the States/UTs for setting up, construction/renovation and strengthening of Hospitals is annexed. However, it is the responsibility of the State Governments to make efforts to provide adequate health care facilities to the people. Central Government supplements their efforts by way of providing assistance to the state Governments through various schemes/programmes such as National Heath Mission (NHM) and Pradhan Mantri Swasthaya Surksha Yojana (PMSSY).
