Question : Conservation of Historical Monuments

(a) whether the Government has taken any steps for protection and conservation of various historical monuments/forts/heritage sites in the country including monuments of Ahom Era located in various places of upper Assam, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Odisha and Maharashtra;

(b) if so, the details thereof including the reports of damage caused to such monuments/sites in various parts of the country;

(c) the action proposed to be taken for restoration of these monuments, State/UT and monument-wise;

(d) the monument/temple/fort/heritage site/ museum-wise details of the financial assistance granted and expenditure incurred for the conservation, protection and establishment during the last three years, State-wise; and

(e) whether the Government has any plan to earn revenue by sale of tickets as entry fees of these forts/monuments and considering to lease out these forts/monuments for hotel and rent out for marriages and if so, the details thereof?

(a)to (c) Yes Madam. Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has 3686 numbers of protected monuments of national importance in the country. The conservation work of them, including Ahom Era located in various places of upper Assam, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Odisha and Maharashtra, is attended regularly depending upon the availability of resources and need of repairs at different sites and they are in a good state of conservation.

(d) State-wise details of expenditure incurred on conservation of protected monuments during the last three years are given in annexure - I. Similarly details for museums under ASI are given in annexure - II.

(e) Yes Madam. There are 116 ticketed monuments under ASI earning revenue by sale of entry tickets. There is no plan to lease out protected monuments for hotels and rent out for marriages.
