Question : REVIVAL OF TRADITIONAL RAIN WATER HARVESTING SYSTEM



(a) whether the Government has any proposal to revive traditional rain water harvesting system in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof alongwith funds earmarked;

(c) whether any such experiment has been done in any State so far; and

(d) if so, the outcome thereof?

(a) Yes, Sir.

(b) It is proposed to launch a massive scheme to repair, renovate and restore all the water bodies that are directly linked to agriculture. In the current year, pilot projects shall be taken up in at least five districts, one district in each of the 5 regions of the country. The estimated cost of the proposed scheme is Rs. 100 crores and funds for this purpose will be drawn from the existing programmes.
