Question : FOG WARNING SYSTEM AT HIGHWAYS



(a) the number of road accidents reported from highways due to fog during each of the last three years, year-wise;

(b) whether Meteorology Department has proposed for the deployment of the advance fog warning system on road used at airports to make winter travel safer;

(c) if so, the details in this regard along with the action taken thereon including examining their financial viabilities; and

(d) the time by which it is likely to be finalized/installed?

(a) As per the statistics available with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the number of road accidents caused due to fog/mist during the last three years is as under:

2011 15,897 2012 17,514 2013 16,959

(b) As per the information available with the Ministry of Road transport and Highways, no such proposal has been made by Metrological Department.

(c) & (d) Do not arise.
