Question : NATIONAL NUTRITION PROGRAMME



(a) the new policies/programmes formulated by the Food and Nutrition Board on the expansion of national nutrition programme and fortification of food for children;

(b) whether with the glut of foodgrains and pulses in the country, the allocation for Anganwadis have been increased;

(c) if so, the details thereof; and

(d) the extent to which the allocation for Creches/Day Care Centres for Children of working mothers have been increased in the ensuing budget?

(a) The Government is in the process of finalizing a national strategy to address the problem of malnutrition. This will have three broad areas for action:


(i) Vigorous awareness campaign on malnutrition.

(ii) Special direct interventions in districts with high malnutrition.

(iii) Nutrition monitoring and surveillance in various States.

(b) No, Sir.

(c) Does not arise.

(d) Yes, Sir. The allocation in the ensuing budget for Creches/Day Care Centres for children of working mothers have been increased by 3.65 crores (Plan and Non-Plan) as compared to last year.
