(a) the present status of on-going railway projects under Northeast Frontier Railway alongwith expenditure incurred thereon and the allocation made therefor during 2001-2002, project-wise;

(b) the details of projects approved during each of the last three years and current year so far alongwith the present status thereof;

(c) the steps taken by the Government for the timely completion of these projects to avoid the cost escalation; and

(d) the time by which these projects are likely to be completed?

(a) and (b): The details of on-going railway projects including those approved during each of the last three years, their present status, expenditure incurred and proposed outlays for 2001-02 are indicated in the Appendix attached.

(c): Funds and materials as required to suit the targets are being provided. The progress of the works is being monitored regularly.

(d): The completion of these projects would depend upon availability of resources.

Status of on-going railway projects under Northeast Frontier Railway

PALN : A New Lines

2 1984-85 Eklakhi- 87 W.B. 226.2 89.2 50 First block section from Balurghat@ Eklakhi to Gazol (14 Km.) has been completed. 80% of earth work has also been completed from Gazol to Buniadpur (Km.14 - 28). Work on minor bridges on this stretch is nearing completion. Land acquisition of 80 kms. stretch is likely to be acquired shortly. Tenders for earthwork and bridges (28 to 45 km stretch) have been finalized. Gazol to Buniyadpur (14km) is tergetted for completion during the 2001-02. New work from Gazol to Itahar (31km) included in the Budget 2001-02 as a Material modification.
3 1992-93 Dudhnoi-Depa 15.5 Assam 22.33 1.82 0.1 This work was sanctioned & in 1992-93. However, Megha- Meghalaya Govt. has not laya made available the land so far for this project due to resistance from local people. However, papers for land acquisition have been submitted in July, 1997. However, the land is yet to be acquired by the Govt. of Meghalaya. Work on this project would be taken up only after the land becomes available and will be completed within 2 years of land being made available.
4 1996-97 Harmuti- 33 Assam 156 10.0 5 This work has been frozen Itanagar and at the request of the Ar.Pr State Govt. who now want an alternative alignment from Halem to Itanagar for which a survey has been sanctioned.
5 1996-97 Kumarghat- 109 Tripura 825 104 40 Land acquisition is in Agartala progress. A total of about 1950 acres of land, including forestland, is to be acquired for the project. Out of this possession of 1300 acres of land has already been taken. The work for construction of staff quarters at Agartala is in progress. Earthwork and minor bridges in a stretch of 40 km from Agartala and 20 km from Kumarghat is in progress. 52 lac cum earthwork have been completed and 25 minor bridges have also been completed between Agartala and Jirania and Kumarghat-Manu section. Contracts for all major bridges in Agartala- Jirania and Kumarghat- Manu section have been awarded and work is in progress. Since the line has now to be constructed as BG, a fresh final location survey has been taken up through RITES in the ghat sections and the report is expected to be completed shortly. Work will be started on the rest of the section after the alignment is finalised and land becomes available.

6 1997-98 Bogibeel 46 Assam 1000 10 14.9 Final location survey has Bridge## been completed and alignment marked on the ground. Detailed report and estimate of the project has been submitted by RITES. CCEA`s clearance in principle has also been obtained. Sharing of cost for rail cum road bridge has been decided to be on same principle as for Jogighopa bridge. RITES have completed the field survey, geo-technical investigations, seismic studies etc. studies in respect of hydraulic model, traffic, design of bridge, protection works etc. are in progress. The report is expected later this year. Work will be started once the survey including model studies is completed and alignment is fixed and final clearance of CCEA is obtained.

7 1997-98 Diphu- 123 Assam 1600 25.3 5 This work has been frozen Karong Ph 1 and since Govt. of Manipur Nagaland has suggested to have Jiribam-Imphal as a alternative alignment to this work, for which proposal to take up survey is under consideration of the Board.
8 2000-01 New Maynaguri- 245 W.B. 733 6 20 Part Detailed estimate for Jogigopa and Final location survey Assam has been sanctioned and FLS has been taken up. Survey works in the first 2 block sections (28km) from New Maynaguri end has been commenced departmentally.

PALN : B Gauge Conversion

2 1993-94 Lumding- 628 Assam 738.5 687 2 The work of main line Dibrugarh from Lumding to Dibrugarh, with linked Tinsukia-Lekhapani and fingers@ branch lines from Furkating to Mariani and Simalguri-Moranhat has been completed.Gauge conversion work on Amguri-Tuli and Makum- Dangari is in progress and will be completed in 2001-02.

Preparation of land acquisition plan and papers has been taken up. RITES have already completed the paper alignment for entire length and staking of the alignment has been completed in 150 km. Earthwork and bridges are now in progress between Lumding and Silchar in 90 km length (40 km from Lumding end and 50 km from Silcher end).40% of the earthwork in this 90 km length has been completed, and 60 minor bridges out of 138 in this length have also been completed. Work of Silcher-Jiribam gauge conversion is being carried out as a material modification of this work. Work of gauge conversion of Badarpur to Baraigram (44km) included in the Budget 2001-02 as a Material modification.
