(a) the number and location of growth centres opened so far till date in the country, State-wise;
(b) the funding pattern of these centres;
(c) the central assistance released to these growth centres till date, year-wise and centre-wise;
(d) the extent to which objectives have been achieved by these growth centres in each State;
(e) whether the Government propose to open some more growth centres in the remaining period of Ninth Five Year Plan; and
(f) if so, the location-wise details thereof?

(a) to (c): Out of the 71 growth centres to be developed throughout the country, 68 growth centres have been sanctioned by the Central Government so far. Their State-wise number and location and the amount of Central assistance released year-wise and State-wise have been given in Annexure-I.
Under the financing pattern evolved in 1995, the Central Government provides Rs.10 crore for each growth centre by way of equity. This has been enhanced to Rs.15 crore in the case of growth centres in the North Eastern States. Balance funds are to be raised by the State Government and its agencies who implement the project.
(d): The objective of the Growth Centre Scheme is to develop basic infrastructure at selected sites in backward areas to enable the States to attract industries. Details State-wise are given in
Annexure-II.
(e) and (f): 3 growth centres remain to be sanctioned which are proposed to be set up one each in Assam, Sikkim and Uttaranchal States.
