Question : IMPORT DUTIES ON MEDICAL DEVICES



(a) the details of duty applicable on import of medical devices during each of the last three years and the current year, item-wise;

(b) whether import of finished goods is encouraged at the expense of importing the materials needed for manufacturing of such devices;

(c) if so, whether more than 50% of medical devices are imported due to higher duties in the country;

(d) if so, whether the Government is going to give some solace to manufacturers of medical devices in the country to translate `Make in India` slogan into a reality; and

(e) if so, the steps taken or being taken by the Government in this regard?

(a): The duties of customs applicable on import of medical devices falling under Customs Tariff Headings 9018, 9019 & 9022 during the last three years and the current year is as given below:-
