Question : Change of Subject in CBSE Schools

(a) whether the students in the schools recognised by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) have the facility to get transferred from one school to another;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the students of CBSE schools who enter in the 12th class after passing the 11th class can change their subject;
(d) if so, the details thereof along with the number of students who changed the subjects in class 12th during the last one year and the current year, State-wise;
(e) if not, whether it is not the violation of the Right to Education Act; and
(f) if so, the reaction of the Government thereto?

(a) and (b): Yes, Madam. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) permits the students studying in CBSE affiliated schools for change of schools to avoid hardship. Such cases of change of schools are given post-facto approval by the CBSE within a month of admission in a new school.

(c) and (d): Under Rule 26(iv) of Examination Bye-Laws Chairman, CBSE is empowered to allow the change of subject (s) in class XII only in exceptional cases provided such a request of change is made before 31st August of the academic session.
