Question : Piped Water Supply

(a) whether more than 80 per cent rural household are yet to get piped water supply;
(b) if so, the reasons therefor;
(c) whether the Government has convened a meeting with States recently and if so, the number of States attended the meeting;
(d) whether the Government has chalked out a plan in consultation with the States to launch a new mission to ensure ‘Nal Se Jal’ for every household in the country during the next five years; and
(e) if so, the year-wise target fixed by the Government in this regard and time by which the mission is likely to start?

(a) & (b) As reported by States on Integrated Management Information System (IMIS), 18.33% rural household are getting drinking water from household tap connection. The State Governments are empowered to provide household connections as per their own policy and funds available with them.

(c) Yes sir. Recently, a meeting of the State Ministers of Water Resources and Water Supply was held on 11th June 2019 chaired by the Minister of Jal Shakti in which comprehensive review of the activities taken up by the States for addressing the concerns arising out of the current situation was carried out. The Ministers in charge of Water Supply from 18 states attended the meeting.However, senior representatives from all States attended the meeting.

(d) to (e) The matter is under consideration of the Government.
