Question : Weapon locating Radar System

(a) whether the Defence Research and Development Organisation has developed an indigenous Weapon Locating Radar system called ‘Swati’ for Army purpose;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government proposes to export the same after Army’s requirements are fulfilled and once it become success; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): Yes, Madam. DRDO has developed an indigenous Weapon Locating Radar (WLR) System called Swati for Indian Army. It has been handed over to Army on 2nd March 2017. A production order has been placed by Indian Army on M/s Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bengaluru for 30 Nos.

(c) & (d): WLR has been designed & developed for Indian Army and produced by M/s BEL for their use. After the requirements of Army is fulfilled, Government may consider to export the same to friendly countries based on its policies at that moment.
