Question : Household Survey

(a) whether the Ministry had conducted a survey recently which indicate that only 4% rural households have computers as compared to 24% in urban areas and only 15% rural households have internet facility as compared to 42% in urban areas;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has taken note of this glaring divide between urban and rural India in computer and internet penetration and usage;

(d) if so, the details/findings of any survey conducted in this regard;

(e) whether any consultations have been held with the Ministries of HRD and IT in this regard to bridge the gap; and

(f) if so, the outcome of the same?

(a) to (d): As per the survey on Household Social Consumption on Education, 75th round conducted by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation during July 2017 - June 2018, the estimated percentage of households with computer and internet facility is given below:

(e) & (f): There is no consultation held with the Ministries of Human Resource Development (HRD) & Information Technology to bridge the gap in this regard. However, the questionnaire of survey on Household Social Consumption on Education was finalized by the Working Group of National Sample Survey (NSS), 75th Round with the consultation from various Ministries/ Departments including Ministry of Education (erstwhile Ministry of HRD).
