Question : SHOOTING AT NAVAL CHIEF`S RESIDENCE



(a) whether in view of the incident of shooting on December 1, 2000 at the Naval Chief`s residence by the security guard, a situation has arisen that no personnel with disturbed frame of mind be entrusted the task of protecting our nation`s most important dignitaries; and

(b) if so, the steps taken by the Government in this direction?

(a) & (b): The shooting incident is a matter of serious concern. A Board of Inquiry was constituted by the Naval Headquarters to look into the security lapse and to recommend measures. Based on the recommendations of this Board, security arrangements of the Chief of Naval Staff have been improved. Measures are already in force for proper screening, selection and training of sailors deputed for the security of the Chief of Naval Staff.
