Question : EXPANSION OF RAIL LINES



(a) the targets set for expansion of rail lines during the current year;

(b) the length of rail lines in Kilometres expanded so far;

(c) the amount spent on the above expansion work by the Government; and

(d) the length of the rail lines in Kilometres decided to be expanded in Maharashtra?

(a) Addition of 1340 km of BG lines has been targeted for completion during 2003-2004 under plan head New Lines, Gauge Conversion and Doublings.

(b) & (c) Expansion of rail network is an on-going process.63140 route km was existing on the Indian Railway system as on 1.4.2002. The data regarding amount spent on the expansion of rail lines since the start of rail network in the country is not available.

(d) A number of New Lines, Gauge Conversion and Doubling projects are in progress, falling partly/fully in the state, which on completion would add over 1600 km. to the BG network.
