Question : Energy Generation Capacity

(a) the current energy generation capacity from Nuclear power plants; and

(b) the targets set for making India a Renewable powerhouse in the world?

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR PERSONNEL, PUBLIC GRIEVANCES & PENSIONS AND PRIME MINISTER’S OFFICE (Dr. JITENDRA SINGH):

(a) The present installed nuclear power capacity comprises of 22 reactors with a total capacity of 6780 MW. In addition, one reactor, Kakrapar Atomic Power Project (KAPP)-3 (700 MW) has been connected to the grid on January 10, 2021.

(b) The Government has set a target for installing 175 GW of Renewable Energy capacity (excluding large hydro) by the year 2022 which includes 100 GW from solar, 60 GW from wind, 10 GW from Biomass and 5 GW from Small Hydro. A cumulative renewable energy capacity of 92.97 GW has so far been achieved in the country up to February, 2021.
