Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:
(a) the number of medical and dental colleges, State/UT/Government/private college-wise; and
(b) the total number of doctors working as MD/MS/M.Ch. at present in the country, State/UT-wise?

(a): There are 539 Medical Colleges and 313 Dental Colleges in the Country. The State / UT / Government / Private college-wise break up of medical and dental colleges are in Annexure-I and Annexure-II respectively.
(b): As per information received from the Board of Governors-Medical Council of India (BOG-MCI), a total of 3,34,774 doctors with Postgraduate Medical qualifications (MD / MS / M.Ch / DM) in the country are registered with the Medical Council of India and the State Medical Councils. The State / UT-wise details are in Annexure-III.
