(a)whether the Animal Welfare Board has drawn the attention of the Government towards the smuggling of animals;

(b)if so, the action taken by the Government in this regard so far; and

(c)the number of persons against whom action has been taken during the last two years, State-wise?

(a) The Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) is a statutory body created under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960, which is presently functioning under the aegis of the Ministry of Environment and Forests. Its mandate is to deal with various matters connected with animal welfare and the prevention of infliction of unnecessary pain and suffering on animals, including domesticated animals and animals in captivity. AWBI has not made any reference to this Ministry regarding the subject of smuggling of animals.
