Question : INTELLIGENT TRAFFIC SYSTEM



(a) whether the Intelligent Traffic System (ITS) was introduced keeping in view the tremendous increase in traffic during the Commonwealth Games to establish state-of- the-art traffic management system in the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether there are reports indicating lack of planning and diligence on the part of Delhi Police in appointment of the consultant and implementation of ITS resulting in non-implementation of the project and unfruitful expenditure of Rs. 7.50 crore;

(d) if so, the details thereof and the responsibility fixed in this regard; and

(e) the corrective action taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) to (e) : The Intelligent Traffic System is yet to be introduced by Delhi Police in NCT of Delhi. However, M/S RITES were appointed as Consultant for the project. The tender for supply, installation, commissioning and maintenance of Intelligence Traffic System (ITS) was floated, but was scrapped due to certain deficiencies.

The Traffic Management and Control Station is an integral part of Integrated Intelligent Security Surveillance System for which a Consultant namely M/S Price Waterhouse Coopers Pvt. Ltd. (PWC) has already been appointed.
