Question : Suburban Railway Project in Bengaluru

(a) the progress made in the implementation of the suburban railway project of Bengaluru since its approval in last years Budget;

(b) whether the Government has set up a mechanism to continuously monitor the progress of the project; if so, the details thereof ;


(c) the steps taken by the Government to prevent delays in the implementation of the project; and

(d) whether the Government has come up with a revised deadline for the completion of the project, if so, the details thereof along with the present deadline for the various stages of completion?

(a) : Sanction of Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) (148.17 Km in 04 corridors) has been accorded by CCEA (Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs) in October, 2020.
Karnataka Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (K-RIDE), a Joint Venture Company of State Govt. of Karnataka (51%) and Ministry of Railways (49%) is executing this project.
K-RIDE has completed the preparatory activities like approval of technical documents, geo-technical investigation identification of utilities to be shifted, negotiations for external funding etc.


85% of the land required for executing BSRP is already available. Process for acquiring remaining land is at advanced stage. Tender for physical work are at different stages of finalisation. Approximate amount of ?103.82 crores has been spent for the BSRP till 31st January, 2022.
(b) : Institutionalized mechanism set up to oversee the implementation of Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) is as under :
• A High-Powered Committee (HPC) under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary of Government of Karnataka.
• Technical Co-ordination Committee comprising of officers from South Western Railways and K-RIDE.
• Technical Co-ordination Committee comprising of representatives from Bangalore Metro Corporation Limited (BMRCL) and K-RIDE.
Apart from above, regular review meetings are also conducted by Commissioner, Department of Urban and Land Transport (DULT) with K-RIDE. Progress is also monitored under the umbrella forum of ‘Bangalore Mission 2022’ constituted for comprehensive development of Bengaluru. Additionally, periodic meetings have been held at the apex level between CEO & Chairman, Railway Board and Chief Secretary, Govt. of Karnataka along with representatives from Ministry of Railways and Govt. of Karnataka to assess progress and deliberate on outstanding issues.
(c) and (d) K-RIDE, the implementing agency for BSRP is committed to complete the project within the stipulated period of 06 years. No delay is envisaged at present.
