(b) Steel Authority of India Limited has undertaken Modernization & Expansion of its integrated steel plants at Bhilai, Bokaro, Rourkela, Durgapur & Burnpur and Special Steel Plant at Salem which envisages increase in its crude steel production capacity from 12.8 Mtpa to 21.4 Mtpa.
Under Modernization and Expansion Plan, SAIL has installed latest state-of-the-art rolling mills viz. coupled Pickling and Tandem mill for cold rolled products, Universal Rail Mill, Plate Mill, Universal Section Mill, Wire Rod & Bar Mill, Medium Structural Mill etc. having capability for producing various value added products like:-
• Plates/Pipes to meet API (American Petroleum Institute) 100 Grade specifications.
• Universal Beams/ Heavy Beams in the sizes up to 1100 mm to support increasing Infrastructural requirements.
• Rails for Metro-Railways.
• Increased production of Rails and wheels to meet the increasing requirements of Indian Railways.
• Rail welding facility for producing up to 260m long rails.
• Wider Plates upto the size of 4200 mm.
• Auto grade CR Products, Galvanized Coils/Sheets.
