(a) The main features of Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) [SBM(G)] are:-
• Emphasis on behaviour change including interpersonal communication; strengthening implementation and delivery mechanisms down to Gram Panchayat level
• Flexibility to States in designing delivery mechanisms taking into account their local culture, practices, sensibilities and demands
• Greater emphasis on capacity building, especially in community approaches and programme management - training of KRCs (Key resource Centres) and involvement of Collectors to provide leadership at the district level
• Programme being run as a citizens’ movement with cooperation of all sections of society including NGOs, corporates, youth etc.
(b) Under SBM(G), Government of India releases the funds to the State Governments. Further distribution of the same to the districts is done by the State Governments. Details of funds released and utilised in Maharashtra under SBM(G) since 2014-15 are as under:

(c) All 34 districts of Maharashtra are covered under SBM(G). Since SBM(G) is demand driven scheme, fixed targets are not set. However, District-wise number of Individual household latrines (IHHLs) constructed under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) [SBM(G)] in Maharashtra including Madha region from 2.10.2014 to 18.9.2020, as per the data reported by the State on the online integrated management information system, are given at Annexure-1.
(d) & (e) Phase II of SBM (G) has been approved by the Government to be implemented from 2020-21 to 2024-25 with the focus on sustainability of ODF status of all villages and to cover all the villages with proper solid and liquid waste management. The total estimated outlay is Rs.1,40,881 crores. Apart from the budgetary provisions of Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation and the State Governments, the remaining amount will be dovetailed from the 15th Finance Commission grants to rural local bodies, MGNREGS, other schemes of Central/State Governments, and revenue generation models, etc.
(f) Phase II of SBM(G) will be implemented in all the districts of Maharashtra.
