Question : BROADCASTING HOUSES IN BACKWARD DISTRICTS



(a) the total number of backward/inaccessible districts of the country where Doordarshan and AIR stations have been set up;

(b) whether the Government is implementing/proposes to implement broadcasting network in tribal and inaccessible areas of the country including Madhya Pradesh;

(c) if so, the details thereof along with the steps taken during each of the last three years and the current year, State-wise; and

(d) whether the Government has allocated adequate funds in this regard and if so, the details thereof during the said period?

(a) Prasar Bharati has informed that Doordarshan stations have been set up in 135 backward districts of the country while broadcasting centres of All India Radio have been set up in 92 of them.

(b) & (c) Steps have been taken to implement broadcasting network in tribal and inaccessible areas of the country including Madhya Pradesh during each of the last three years and the current year as per details given below:
(i) 46 new AIR Broadcast Centres have been commissioned in tribal and inaccessible areas of the country including Madhya Pradesh. State-wise details during each of the last three years and the current year is given in Annexure – I.
(ii) Schemes for setting up of new FM Broadcast Centres at 45 places in tribal and inaccessible areas are under implementation. State-wise detail is given in Annexure – II.
(iii) Schemes for upgradation of existing 19 FM transmitters of tribal and inaccessible areas are under implementation. State-wise detail is given in Annexure – III.

(d) There is no budget allocation in the case of Doordarshan in this regard. Details of budget allocation in respect of AIR is given below:

The capital cost amounting to Rs.105.00 Crore has been approved under 12th Plan for implementation of the schemes as Shown in Annexure-I and II.
