Question : DOYANG HYDRO ELECTRIC PROJECT



(a) whether the Doyang Hydro-electric Project has been completed and commissioned;

(b) if so, the details of phases and how far it has added to the power generation capacity of North-East Electric Power Corporation alongwith the cost thereof;

(c) the areas to be covered including those in Assam; and

(d) the per unit production cost of power by this project and how it compares with the national average?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF POWER( SHRIMATI JAYAWANTI MEHTA )

(a) to (c): One each of the three units of 25 MW each of Doyang Hydro-electric Project executed by North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) in Nagaland at an estimated cost of Rs. 758.70 crores, were commissioned on 29th June, 5th July and 8th July, 2000 respectively. With the commissioning of the project, the aggregate installed capacity of power projects of NEEPCO was raised to 700 MW. The power generated from the project is allocated to all the seven States in the North Eastern Region as indicated below:

Assam	-	37.3%
Manipur	-	6.7%
Meghalaya	-	6.7%
Nagaland	-	17.3% (including 12% free power)
Tripura	- 6.7%
Arunachal Pradesh	-	6.7%
Mizoram	- 4.0%
Unallocated	-	14.6%

(d): The cost of energy generation (excluding Return on Equity and cost of 12 percent free power to the home state) works out to Rs. 3.64 paise per unit. Information on cost of production from other projects commissioned by CPSUs/SEBs in the same time frame is being collected and will be laid on the Table of the House.
