(a) whether the Government is planning to introduce Metrolite train facility for transportation in the smaller cities and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether any such proposal is made for the State of Andhra Pradesh and if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the status and the progress of the metrolite train programme?

(a) to (c) Urban transport, which is an integral part of urban development, is a state subject. Hence, the respective state government is responsible for initiating and developing urban transport infrastructure including Metrolite. The Central Government considers financial assistance for metro rail projects including Metrolite in cities or urban agglomerates, subject to feasibility of the project and availability of resources, when posed by the concerned state governments. This Ministry in July, 2019 has issued standards for Light Urban Rail Transit system called “Metrolite”, suitable for cities with less projection of ridership. This system can also be used as feeder to high capacity metro rail system.
No proposal has been received from Government of Andhra Pradesh for implementation of Metrolite.
