(a) The details of the existing programmes for generation of wind energy being run with the cooperation of international agencies like World Bank;

(b) Whether the Government has any proposal to strengthen the said programmes for increasing the wind energy output; and

(c) If so, the details thereof?

(a) : There is no ongoing programme for generation of wind energy with cooperation of international agencies.

(b)&(c): Yes, Sir. Grid interactive wind power installed capacity aggregating to 5340 MW have already been set up so far in the country as commercial projects. A target of 1000 MW wind power installed capacity has been fixed for the year 2006-07. The steps taken for accelerated commercial development through industry participation and private investments, include fiscal and promotional incentives from the Government and loans from Financial Institutions including Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA); policies in States for grid connection and sale of electricity generated; establishment of strong indigenous manufacturing base; technical support by the Centre for Wind Energy Technology (C-WET); and detailed wind resource assessment to identify further potential sites in various States.
