Question : Setting up of SEZs

(a) whether the Government proposes to set up Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in the country;
(b) if so, the details and the locations thereof, State/UT-wise along with the time by which final decision is likely to be taken by the Government in this regard;
(c) the cost at which the Government has acquired land from farmers for setting up of SEZs in the country during the last three years; and
(d) the facilities other than the compensation provided to the farmers after acquiring their land?

(a): No Madam. Special Economic Zones (SEZs) being set up under the SEZs Act, 2005 are primarily private investment driven.

(b): Does not arise, in view of response to (a) above.

(c): Land is a State subject. Land for SEZs is procured as per the policy and procedures of the respective State Governments. The Central Government has not acquired land from farmers for setting up of SEZs during the last three years.

(d): Does not arise, in view of the response to (c) above.
