Question : Inspection of Peruvannamuzhi Dam

(a) whether the Peruvannamuzhi Dam in Kozhikode district lack the required strength as per the CWC inspection report of 1988;
(b) if so, the details thereof and the action being taken to overcome the damages identified in the inspection report;
(c) whether a proposal/tender for a support dam is pending before the Government for the last one year and if so, the reasons for the delay in granting clearance; and
(d) whether it is also a fact that in the absence of approval, the sanctioned amount will lapse and if so, the action being taken to clear the said proposal?

(a) An inspection of Kuttiady (Peruvannamuzhi) Dam was conducted on 4/11/1986 by the officials of CWC and strengthening measures were indicated in the inspection Note.

(b) The dam is being rehabilitated under the ongoing World Bank assisted Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP). Some grouting works in Dam has been carried out under this programme. Strengthening of dam by providing supporting concrete structure on the downstream face of the dam has been designed and finalized.

(c) & (d) The Kerala Water Resources Department (KWRD) prepared a technical bid document for rehabilitation under ongoing DRIP and has published the Notice for Inviting Tender (NIT). Bid document is already approved and efforts are being taken to complete the work within the stipulated time.
