Question : Promotion of Research Clinical Trials

Will the Minister of AYURVEDA,YOGA AND NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY (AYUSH) be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government proposes to promote research/clinical trials of AYUSH medicines in the country, if so, the details thereof along with guidelines formulated in this regard;

(b) the details of the institutions involved in clinical trials and research in AYUSH medicines particularly in Ayurveda, State/UT-wise;

(c) whether the Government has conducted any study/clinical trial to check the authenticity of various types of Bhasm for Ayurvedic treatment for various ailments and if so, the details thereof; and

(d) the other steps being taken by the Government to promote clinical trials of AYUSH medicines in the country?

ANSWER

(a) & (b): Yes. The Government has set up five Autonomous Research Councils namely, Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Central Council for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy (CCRYN), Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS) and Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) to promote research/clinical trials of AYUSH medicines in the country. Research Activities are carried out by these Councils through a network of 83 Institutes as per details as at Annexure-I.

(c) & (d): CCRAS has conducted safety/toxicity study to ensure safety of 14 important Ayurvedic formulations including bhasmas and rasa kalpas used in Ayurveda for various diseases. The study revealed safety of the preparations and the results were published in the form of a book entitled “Evidence based safety of Ayurvedic Medicines”, annexed as Annexure-II.
