Question : IRON ORE MINES FOR STEEL PSUS



(a) the details of the steel Public Sector Under- takings (PSUs) in the country along with the mines attached to each of them in the country;

(b) whether due to delay in allotting captive iron ore mine to the steel PSUs, their capacity expan- sion and production targets have been affected;

(c) if so, the details thereof; and

(d) the corrective steps taken by the Government in this regard?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF STEEL AND MINES (SHRI VISHNU DEO SAI)

(a) There are two steel producing Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) namely, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) under the Ministry of Steel.

SAIL is operating nine iron ore mines and seven flux mines (Limestone and Dolomite) and four coal mines in the States of Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal for captive use. In addition to these, SAIL also have iron ore deposits at Rowghat and Dolomite deposit at Baraduar (Chhattisgarh). RINL has no attached iron ore or coal mines but it has got four flux mines, one each of Limestone, Manganese and Sand in Andhra Pradesh and one of Dolomite in Telangana.
