Question : DEATH OF MONKEYS



(a) whether the Government has received reports about the death of monkeys in the river near Agra recently;

(b) if so, the total number of dead bodies of monkeys recovered;

(c) whether the Government has conducted any investigation in this regard;

(d) if so, the details thereof and outcome thereof; and

(e) the action taken by the Government against the person found responsible in this regard?

(a)&(b) Yes, Sir. A report has been received from the Chief Wildlife Warden, Uttar Pradesh regarding death of monkeys in Sarrendhi Forest and Untgan River in Kaitholi village in Agra district. As per report, 13 monkeys were found dead in Sarrendhi Forest on 6.2.2015 and another 73 monkeys were found dead in Untgan River in Kaitholi village on 7.2.2015.

(c),(d)&(e) As informed by the State Government, post mortem of dead monkeys has been conducted and doctors have diagnosed the reason of death due to poisonous food. Necessary legal action has been taken by local police in this regard.
