(a)&(b): Antibiotics are used judiciously in the poultry farms whenever required for treatment purposes. No information has been received from any State Government regarding rampant administering of antibiotics to the chicken in the poultry farms to make them fat.
(c): The National Centre for Disease Control, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has informed that they are not aware of any such study by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE).
(d): Antimicrobial resistance is a dynamic phenomenon. For the effective cure of animal disease conditions based on the antibiotic sensitivity pattern, use of antibiotics in animals is necessary. The Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries has issued advisories to all State/UTs for judicious use of antibiotics in treatment of food producing animals, for stopping the use of antibiotics in animal feed and for general awareness. The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has informed that the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules were amended by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare vide Gazette notification G.S.R. 28(E) dated 17th January 2012, to make a provision that the container of a medicine for treatment of food producing animals shall be labeled with the withdrawal period of the drug for the species on which it is intended to be used.
