(a) the bank-wise number of the branches of foreign bank set up in the
country;
(b) whether the Government provide any facilities to the foreign banks to
enable them to open their branches in India;
(c) if so, the details thereof;
(d) whether the Government have received applications from foreign
banks for opening up additional branches in the country; and
(e) if so, the details thereof and decision taken by the Government in this
regard, bank-wise ?

(a): The details of the number of branches of foreign banks in India,
bank-wise, as on 31st October, 2002, is given in the Annexure-I.
(b)&(c): No facilities are provided by the Government to foreign banks
for setting up their branches.
(d)&(e): On the basis of applications received, Government has allowed
six foreign banks for opening of 16 additional branches in the country.
The center-wise and bank-wise details are given in Annexure-II.
