Question : Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:
(a) whether the medical interns staged protests across the States/UTs opposing the move to extend the Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) period in the States and also regarding their other pending demands;
(b) if so, the details of their proposals rejected so far and also the corrective steps being taken to resolve their issues;
(c) whether there is exploitation of young doctors in the country with minimal pay which would affect their career;
(d) if so, the reaction of the Government thereto; and
(e) the corrective steps being taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) & (b): The National Medical Commission issued an Advisory on 09.12.2020 extending the time limit for completion of Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) for MBBS students by 31st May, 2021 which was to be completed by 31st March, 2021 in order to compensate for the lost period of Clinical Clerkship due to the lockdown and restrictions consequent to Covid-19 pandemic. All the medical colleges / Institutions and Universities were advised to ensure that the extended time period for completion of internship is utilized most effectively to ensure that the students acquire the competencies as outlined in the Regulations.
(c) to (e): Health being a State subject, the concerned State Government decides the salary and allowances for the doctors working in the public health facilities. Therefore, no such information is maintained centrally.
