Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:
(a) the total number of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) in the country, State-wise;
(b) whether every village in the country has at least one ASHA and if not, the reasons therefor;
(c) whether the Government has provided funds to the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) to run the ASHA training project; and
(d) if so, the details of funds allocated and utilised by NIOS during the last three years

(a) The State/UT-wise number of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) selected under the National Rural Health Mission is at Annexure.
(b) As per the guidelines, ASHAs are not selected village wise but based on population norm of one ASHA per 1000 population except in tribal, hilly and desert areas where the norm can be relaxed to one ASHA per habitation, depending on the workload, geographic dispersion, and difficult terrain.
(c) & (d): National Institute of Opens Schooling is not involved in the training of ASHAs. Funds have been provided to National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) for undertaking process of accreditation of trainers & training sites and certification of ASHAs as per the Memorandum of Understanding signed with NIOS.
(d) The details of funds allocated and utilized by NIOS during the last three years are as below:
