(a) the salient features of ‘Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Fund for Sportspersons (PDUNWFS); (b) the funds/amount released/utilized/disbursed/sanctioned thereunder, State-wise including district Satna;

(c) whether it is a fact that any awareness programme has been launched in Madhya Pradesh for implementation of the said scheme for medical treatment of sportspersons; and

(d) if so, the details thereof since inception of the said scheme, year-wise and if not, the reasons therefor?

THE MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) FOR YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS [KIREN RIJIJU]

(a) : The salient features of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Fund for Sportspersons (PDUNWFS) are as follows :

(i) To provide suitable assistance to outstanding sportspersons now living in indigent circumstances;
(ii) To provide suitable assistance to outstanding sportspersons injured during the period of their training for competitions and also during the competitions, depending on the nature of the injury; (iii) To provide suitable assistance to outstanding sportspersons who bring glory to the country in international sports field and who are disabled as an after effect of their strenuous training or otherwise and to provide them assistance for medical treatment; (iv) To provide suitable assistance to promote welfare of outstanding sportspersons generally in order to alleviate distress among them and their dependents in indigent circumstances.

(b) : Funds are not sanctioned/released State/District-wise under the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Fund for Sportspersons scheme.

(c) : Sports being a State subject the responsibility for medical treatment of athletes of Madhya Pradesh rests with the Government of Madhya Pradesh. Under the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Fund for Sportspersons, this Ministry supplements efforts of the State Government. Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Fund for Sportspersons scheme has been circulated to the Sports Authority of India, Indian Olympic Association, all recognized National Sports Federations, all State Governments/UT Administrations, including Government of Madhya Pradesh. The scheme is also available on the website of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

(d) : The details of funds provided to athletes since 2009-10 of the scheme to till date are at Annexure.
