Question : NON-OPERATIONAL AIRPORTS



(a) the amount spent by the Government on the maintenance of non-operational Airports during the last two years;

(b) the annual amount being spent on maintenance of each of these Airports; and

(c) the steps taken by the Government to make up the losses as a result thereof particularly in view of shortage of funds?

(a), (b) & (c) :- The amount spent on maintenance of non-operational airports and Civil Enclaves(CE) during 1998-99 and 1999-2000 was Rs.239.45 lakhs and Rs.284.11 lakhs respectively. The amount spent on maintenance of these airports for the last two years is as under:-

This minimum maintenance is required so that these airports can be made operational at a short notice as they are required for chartered or nonscheduled flights.
