Question : Land Acquisition at Toll Plazas

(a) whether there are any directives/guidelines to avoid repeated land acquisitions by NHAI at same locations to increase the number of booths at the toll plazas for introducing new truck parking bays and weigh bridges;
(b) if so, the details thereof; and
(c) if not, whether the Government proposes to introduce such directives/guidelines to avoid repeated land acquisitions at places which have irrigated lands, constructed houses etc. and to give preference to staggered toll plazas and land acquisitions at barren land stretches along the highways?

(a) to (c) The guidelines for land acquisition requirement for toll plazas are specified in Terms of Reference (TOR) under para 3.6 of Request for Proposal (RFP) documents of Detailed Project Report (DPR) Consultant.
As per para 10.3 of section-10 of Indian Roads Congress (IRC) 84, the land for toll plaza is to be acquired keeping in view the provisions of toll lanes for a projected peak hour traffic of 20 years subject to minimum number of 16 toll lanes including all other buildings and structures to be accommodated at toll plaza location.
