Question : WEAVERS IN TRIBAL AREAS OF KARNATAKA



(a) whether there exists any special scheme for assisting weavers particularly in tribal areas of Karnataka for promoting traditional arts;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether any monetary assistance has been provided to the weavers of traditional attires in Karnataka during each of the last three years;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, whether the Government would consider introducing such scheme for the traditional weavers in predominant tribal States?

(a) to (d): No, Madam. There is no special scheme for assisting weavers particularly in tribal areas of the country including Karnataka for promoting traditional arts. However, Government of India is implementing Integrated Handlooms Development Scheme, Marketing & Export Promotion Scheme, Mill Gate Price Scheme, Handloom Weavers Comprehensive Welfare Scheme and Diversified Handloom Development Scheme for the overall development of the handloom sector and welfare of the handloom weavers.

(e): Schemes of the Government for handloom sector/weavers are formulated in consultation with the State Governments. Such scheme on the recommendation of the State Government(s) can be considered depending upon the merit.
