Question : Gramin Agricultural Markets

(a) whether the Government proposes to improve/develop Gramin Agricultural Markets (GrAMs) according to the requirements/demands of the farmers so as to provide right price for their produce so that they could avoid unnecessary expenditure and save time;
(b) the number of ‘mandis‘ targeted to be set up under ‘Gramin Agricultural Markets‘ (GrAMs) along with the details thereof;
(c) the number of total ‘mandis‘ set up in compliance with the said target, State-wise particularly in Maharashtra;
(d) the number of the said ‘mandis‘ that organize weekly markets and the number of ‘mandis‘ which function on daily basis; and
(e) the number of ‘mandis‘ out of the above which have basic facilities and those which lack it?

(a) to (e): Based on requirements of farmers, the Government is developing and upgrading rural haats into Gramin Agricultural Markets (GrAMs). The development and upgradation of physical infrastructure of rural haats under control of panchayats through States/ Union Territories is undertaken through Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) as ongoing process for development of GrAMs.
So far, physical infrastructure/ facilities under MGNREGS have been developed in 1251 village haats and is under development in 1553 number of village haats. State-wise list is given at Annexure-I.
As per the preliminary analysis of the rural haats surveyed, 73 % of Rural haats are weekly operated, while 11% are operating on daily basis. Further the details of per centage of the mandis/rural haats having the basic facilities is given in Annexure – II.
As informed by Directorate of Marketing, Government of Maharashtra there are 3500 rural haats/ GrAMs in Maharashtra State. These GrAMs work under the control of the Rural Department of the State Government.
